11 Days – Tanzania

 

 

Day 1: Destination 3 Degrees, Arusha

Your international flight will draw to a close today as you descend over Tanzania, with spectacular views of the snow-capped peaks of Kilimanjaro and Mount Meru. You will touch down at Kilimanjaro International Airport at the base of the 15,000-foot Mount Meru. Upon clearing customs and collecting your baggage, a representative will meet you and your family in arrivals. We will transfer you out to the city and transfer you to your hotel in Arusha town, this first stop will be the perfect place to stretch your legs and unwind before the adventure really begins.

Day 2: Sangaiwe Tented Camp, Tarangire National Park

After breakfast this morning, you will meet with your driver guides for a short safari briefing and begin your safari to Tarangire National park, an interesting drive, passing through small villages along the way with different landscape to admire. The game viewing starts as soon as you enter the national park gates, as you enjoy a game drive in Tarangire National park, a park well known for its large herds of elephants and giant baobab trees. We will find a spot for a hot packed lunch under a tree in the park and later in the afternoon, and after an exciting day in the park you will drive to your camp for dinner and overnight, arriving to the camp in the late evening to catch the sun sets over the Great Rift Valley.

The opportunity to observe an elephant with no other vehicles around is a rarity in African national parks – but one that can still occur in Tarangire. This park is proudly home to some of Tanzania’s largest herds of elephant, which wander gracefully among populations of lions, leopards and cheetah. This park is also distinguished from its northern sisters by its unique ecosystem, which supports unique wildlife including the oryx and the gerenuk – two ancient looking antelope who favor dry grassland. The Kori Bustard is another unique and impressive sighting in this landscape, given that it is the world’s heaviest flying bird.

Day 3: Sangaiwe Tented Camp, Tarangire National Park

Today, you will set out very early after an early breakfast or option or option to take a packed breakfast, and to catch the sun rise for good photographic moments, enjoy a full day of game viewing in Tarangire National park, a park well known for its large elephant herds and giant baobab trees. Later in the evening, you will drive back to your camp for dinner and overnight at Sangaiwe Tented Camp LDBB

Day 4: Lake Manyara National Park, Country Lodge Karatu

After breakfast, you will drive to Lake Manyara National park, enjoy a morning game drive in the park, with a packed lunch at one of the sites in the park, after lunch, enjoy a final game drive before driving to your lodge, located in the Karatu area for dinner and overnight at Country Lodge Karatu LDBB.

Day 5: Lake Eyasi, Lake Eyasi Safari Camp

After breakfast, you will drive to Lake Eyasi, in the afternoon, you will visit the Datoga tribe. They are pastoralists and the women are beautifully dressed and ornamented with brass. Some still have mask-like tattoos around their eyes. They are very friendly and like to ask other women about their culture and exchange views (and giggles). A blacksmith from the same tribe is another option. The blacksmith makes the brass jewelry for the women and tools for the local market. He also makes arrow heads which the Hadza buy or exchange for honey. Most guests decide to visit both the women in their homes and the blacksmith in his workshop.

The rest of the day will be at leisure at the lodge with dinner and overnight at Lake Eyasi Safari camp LDBB

Day 6:  Lake Eyasi, Bougainvillea Lodge

Today, you will have an early start to an exciting day with the locals. For this it is recommendable to start early in the morning from camp and get to the Hadza camp before they leave on their morning hunt. Being traditional hunter gatherers, the men mostly do the hunting and harvesting of wild honey the women the gathering. The visit can consist of tagging along on the hunt (which can take up to four hours depending on how lucky they get and how fast you are) or in joining the women on a gathering walk. Both women and men can go on the hunt or even on a gathering walk. The Hadzabe are extremely friendly and welcoming and seem to enjoy the visits. During the cultural tours, you will be able to mingle with the tribes and have some precious photographic moment with them.

After an exciting day of the cultural experience, you will drive to your lodge, located in the Karatu Area for dinner and overnight at Bougainvillea Lodge LDBB.

Day 7: Ngorongoro Area to Serengeti Thorn tree Camp, Serengeti

After an early breakfast this morning, you will drive to the Ngorongoro area, and descend down to the crater, for a half day of game viewing in the crater floor, enjoy a hot packed lunch by the lake on the crater floor, before driving to the famous Serengeti National Park, arriving at the camp in the late evening for dinner and overnight

Overnight: Serengeti Thorn Tree Camp LDBB

Included: Full board, 3 meals per day

Day 8, 9, 10: Serengeti Thorn Tree Camp, Serengeti National Park

Enjoy full days of game viewing in Serengeti, with morning and afternoon game drives, or you may opt to take a packed lunch and spend the whole day in the park, the day is yours to plan to your best choice, you may wish to have an early start from camp, to catch the action as the day begins and go back to camp for a late breakfast and the afternoon at leisure and set out again in the evening, or you may take a packed breakfast and return to the camp for a hot lunch and an afternoon at camp and set out in the evening for a game drive and return to the camp in the late evening for dinner and overnight at Thorn Tree Camp LDBB

Day 11: Depart

After breakfast, you will enjoy the final game drive as you drive out of Serengeti National park, back to Arusha. This is an interesting drive that will take approximately 6 to 7 hours across interesting landscape and villages. Upon arrival in Arusha, you will have a day room reserved for you to freshen up and later in the evening, you will be transferred to the airport for your departure flight.
